Sugar Skulls

GUYS!
I know it has been a while... I have been super busy.
Over the course over the last couple of months I have been to London and back AND started a new job. But this weekend I decided to get back in the swing of things.... so here is my sugar skull nail art.

My inspiration for these actually comes from my boyfriend. He and his mate create the most interesting t-shirts designs, and their first ever one was a picture of a sugar skull... so here is my interpretation.

I decided to use some of my bf's favourite colours...

White: Sally Hansen - White On
Black: Sally Hansen - Black Out
Green: Barry M - Watermelon
Red: NYC - Boundless Berry

I know it's not the best I have done, but at least it is better than nothing!! :)

Enjoy!!

PS: Sorry about the dry cuticles! :(

Khaki Stripes

My latest creation....

I wanted to use my lovely khaki coloured nail polish as I hadn't used it in aaaaaages. I decided to play around with some free hand work too. So all those stripes have been done free hand. Like I have said many times before, I am not very good at free hand work so I thought this would be an easy (and safe) way to practise.

I started off by painting my thumb, pointer and middle finger with the beautiful  L'Oreal - Rivegauche Green and for my pinky I used NYC - Park Ave.

In the pictures I could really tell the difference between the two colours but out in the 'real world' the colours looked really similar and lots of people thought I had used the same colours for all 4 nails, which was a bit disappointing.

For my ring finger, I places a label sticker (those label round ones) and I painted one some stripes using the two colours from my other fingers along with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - White On and BC&Co. Shade 11.

I then took the sitcker off and drew a black line to make it neater.

Yellow Stripes...

So I am loving my new yellow nail polish. And I have been trying to find a way to use it in new and different ways. So I have gone to my trusty striping tape and create my new masterpiece.

Combining these two colour were a GREAT idea.

I started off by painting four of my fingers (minus the pinky) in the beautiful light yellow, Face of Australia - Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
Then once the polish has dried I had lots of fun coming up with some funky designs. Then I put on a layer of NYC - Park Ave.

I obviously did the opposite for my pinky, starting with the grayish colour first and then the yellow on top.

I have so much fun using striping tape, simply for the fact that you have no idea how each design in going to turn out. And the feeling you get when you take of the tape and it has worked AND looks great.

What do you think?

Just a little bit tribal...

Here is one of my favourite nail art design!

I decided to use darker colours as the weather is getting pretty miserable. So I picked my favourite autumn shade - NYC Boundless Berry. This plum colour is popping up everywhere so I thought I would use it in a new nail design.
I started of by painting my whole nail with white. I used nail tape to tape a line done the middle and a few stripes to one side. I originally was going to the do stripes on either side side but felt that the symmetry wouldn't have been as effective. I am super glad I didn't.

Once the tape was laid I painted one side black and the other plum. When I removed the tape the white came through in this really cool pattern. I was really happy with it.

I used 17 Lasting Fix - Mini skirt and BC Co. Shade 11.

So a lot of people asked what I use to get these perfect lines. Now I HAVE tried to get a nice straight line freehand but it is definitely not my strong point. So I use nail art tape.

Nail tape was originally made to create designs on top of nail polish. I have used it for that purpose but because of the quality of my tape it doesn't like to stay on my nail. If you can get your hands on some good quality tape you can come create some pretty crazy designs.

Silver Stripe

I didn't know what to do for my next design. So I took some time playing around with different colour combinations. Once I decided which colours I liked and painted all my nails one colour. Then I thought of doing horizontal stripes in the other two colours... here's what I came up with.

I used H&M Nail Polish - Blue My Mind for the base. Then I used striping tape to paint on Barry M's Metallic Silver and NYC Park Ave.
I think the colour combination looks really effective.
