Galaxy Nails!

So on Saturday night I went to the movies with my friend Haydee to see Gravity. You know? The movie with Sandra Bullock floating around in space. Well we went to see that! And it was awesome! SO AWESOME that I was inspired to finally try my hand at some galaxy nails. I had seen this style on so many other blog I had been meaning to try it, and since I had the inspiration I thought 'What the heck?'....

Now trying to do research on this nail art nearly blew my mind. Every single person has a different way to go about it, some used shimmer polish while others used glitter polish, some layered upon layer upon layer, while other were simple. Ahhhhhhh! *blown mind*

In the end I picked some 'spacey' colours and came up with this...

OK so I used a LOT of colours....this is the order in which I used them.

Purple: 17 - Royal Indigo
Pink: Cate Ruby - Meg
Light Blue: Essence - Absolutely Blue
White: 17 - Mini Skirt
Yellow: Kiko - Shade 279
Sparkle Purple - BC Co - Shade 4
Shimmer Blue: Essence - The Boy Next Door
White (stars): Sally Hansen - White On

I was so complete hung up on technique I realised that the best way to get results is to use your imagination, and you really cant get this wrong (unless you attempt a shooting start and it stuffs up and becomes a starfish shape (see ring finger)).

Hope you like it?

5 shades of grey...

I decided to do a ombre grey nail art.

I was originally going to do it from black to white (and all the grey shades in between) but then I thought if I mix some of the colours I could make a proper ombre effect. So here it is...

Black: BC & Co - Shade 11
Dark Grey: Maybelline - Impeccable Greys
Light Grey: Kiko - Shade 329
White: 17 - Mini Skirt

Orange and Grey Squares!

Hey Everyone!
So last week someone inspired my next nail art design. She was telling me about this beautiful house that was    mostly white with grey and orange square sections. Now that got thinking... how can I transfer this to my nails. Well, after 3 attempts (yes, I said three) I finally was happy with what I had created... here they are.

I used:
White: Sally Hansen - White On
Orange: Rimmel - Hot and Spicy
Dark Grey: Maybelline - Impeccable Greys
Light Grey: Kiko - Shade 329

I started by painting my thumb, middle and ring finger in the white. On my pointer and my thumb I used label sticker to create this beautiful half moon shape in the dark grey.
Once the white had dried I used nail tape to create these long rectangular shapes and square shapes then, painted them the different colours.

Like I said before this took me 3 goes to get right. And if you look closely at my middle finger the colours have bled into the white a bit which REALLY annoys me. But sometimes you just have to let it go. hehe

Anyway I hope you liked it?

Just a little bit of sparkle!

Here is a quick mani I did the other day.

You can do this with any nail polish. I thought the beige-y pink colour from Kiko worked perfectly with the silver.

Once you have picked your colour, apply a few coats on your nails and let dry completely.
Once they are dry add another layer of the SAME nail colour and before it dries (using your finger) dab on some glitter at the base of your nail... and slowly work upwards.

To get this 'ombre' effect I made sure the base was completely covered with the glitter and just rubbed my fingers together on top of the nail allowed the last remaining glitter pieces fall to the tip of the nail, thus giving you the ombre look.

Finish with a top coat.

  • Try not to use your fingers too much and don't press too hard as you might undo all the layers of polish underneath.
  • The other tip is you can use a clear nail polish to help stick the glitter on (instead of  the same colour).
  •  Make sure you check your top coat brush for any stray glitter, because I can guarantee you it will sneak its way onto your next mani and it will annoy the crap outta you!

That's it... SIMPLE!

Let me know what you think?

Peach Polka Dots

Just a quick one today...

I painted my nails all the one colour, this beautiful peach colour by Kiko.  But then I thought to myself, 'What the heck are you doing? You never have a single coloured nails!!' So I swiftly changed them to this cute polka dotted design.

Nothing really too it... Just paint your nails a desired colour and polka dotted some dots on the top. I used a dotting tool but you can use the head of a pin, bobby pin, tooth pick or even a old pen/pencil to make your dots.

Enjoy!

Guest Hands... My cousin Natasha!

I am extremely lucky to have a massive family and some of the GREATEST cousins a girl could ask for. When I first started this blog I didn't have any followers, and without a second thought my cousins stepped up and supported me. And have ever since.
So when one of my cousins Natasha sent me a text last week asking me to do her nails I did not hesitate to say 'YES!'.

She had a party to go to on Saturday night and wanted some fancy nail art to go with her outfit.
So I lugged all my stuff to her house and after looking at her super cute outfit I came up with this...

She had bought this beautiful multicoloured aztec inspired skirt so I took the colours from it and came up with this design. I didn't want to go too aztec-y (if that is even a word) so she could wear the nails for a few days. So I picked a base colour, the green, and did 2 feature nails.

On her middle, pointer and pinky fingers I used Kiko - Shade 389 once  it was dry I topped with Rimmel - Matte Finish.
On her ring and thumb finger I started with  a base colour, Kiko - 359 and once it had dried I sponged on the two other colours; Savvy - Grapetini and Kiki - Shade 389.

Once the colours had dried I used striping tape to create the
anztec-y design and painted over it with a the black, Sally Hanson Xtreme Wear - Black Out.

I think that they came out great ESPECIALLY on Tasha's beautiful tanned skin (damn her)... and she got lots of complements that nights, which is the most important part.

I hope you like?

Sea Spray!

So a few weeks ago I was send a beautiful shimmer nail polish from a company called Rhasdala.

Rhasdala is run by Gai who started up the company by experimenting with different bath and body products and moved into make up not soon after. She prides herself on hand making all her products from natural ingredients, which I think is AMAZING.
If you think about it we use these products everyday, maybe natural is the way to go.
I suggest you go have a look at all her products on the website.... http://rhasdala.com.au/.

NOW, for my nail art.

Gai sent me a bottle of 'Sea Spray' which is a beautiful shimmer with a slight greeny-blue colour through it. When I got it, it looked quite plain. I wasn't sure what to do with it. But as soon I put it on my existing nail polish it made my fingernails light up. The effect it has on normal nail polish is amazing. I played around with it on many different colours. Here is the combination I came up with in the end...

I started off with a couple of coats of Kiko - Shade 389.  Once it had dried I covered 4 of my nails with Rimmel Pro Matte Finish.
On my ring finger I topped the nail with Rhasdala - Sea Spray.

Once the matte coat had dried completely I used some sticky tape to create a triangle shade at the base of the nail, and covered it with the Rhasdala - Sea Spray polish again.

To top it all off I added some silver studs from Sparkly Nails.

I had originally done the piece without the matte polish but the shimmer polish didn't really POP, like it should have.

Anyway I think the whole design looks beautiful.

So I suggest you all get on the Rhasdala website and look at all the different polishes she has to offer and try some out.

Let me know how you go??

Caviar anyone?

What are caviar nails?
Well Caviar Nails have been around for the past year or so. It is basically nail polish covered in tiny little beads to look like caviar. They first made they début on the runway and nail art enthusiasts went crazy!!
Since then most nail polish brands have come up with their own version/colours.

How to put them on?
It's pretty simple....
1. Base coat.
2. One or two coats of your desired colour.
3. One coat of the same colour or clear nail polish and before the polish dries carefully pour the caviar beads over the wet polish.
4. Once the nail is covered, lightly press down on the beads to secure them.
5. Now you can leave it as is over cover with another topcoat.

My attempt...

I actually got my first little bottle of caviar beads from a really good friend. Because of the darker colours I was holding off using them till the cooler months (I have this weird idea that dark colours should be used in the cooler months). So here they are...

The beads I got are the MUA Nail Constellation - Libra and I paired them up with Kiko no 342. I think this colour really brought out the beautiful turquoise beads amongst the black beads.

I got lots of positive comments about this manicure....what do you think?

A little bit of everything...

So this is one of my favourite designs just because it was so much fun to do. I didn't really go in with a plan. I just picked my favourite colour (at the time) and paired it with black and white. I also experimented with a matte top coat.
Each nail has a different technique or tool used;
Thumb: Matte top coat and nail tape.
Forefinger: Sticky tape
Middle: -
Ring: Matte top coat and nail tape.
Pinky: Dotting tool.

This is a really great way to show off your skills. :)

Aztec Nails

Usually when I see Aztec nails they have a lot more detail. But I don't think I am that advanced in my nail art abilities yet. So I tried something a bit simpler. These aren't as neat as I hoped they would be but I think they still look good?? What do you think?

Blue Half Moons

My first nail art blog! How exciting!
I decided to use this one as it got a really good response when I posted it on Facebook.
I came up with this idea after playing around with these Label Reinforcements. Basically they are the reinforcements you stick onto of a hole punch hole to stop it from ripping (you can get them from Officeworks). But if you use them on your nails you can make a clear round shape.
I started with a base coat and then added KiKo Shade 372 and added a top coat.
After it had dried I used to the reinforcements and painted the bottom with Barry M – Metallic Blue.
Finish with a top coat and you done!
