Blue Flowers

I thought I would try my hand at some free hand nail art.
As you may or may not know, it has been a goal of mine to get batter at my free hand work. So I put away the striping tape, sticky tape, stencils, stamps and picked up a paint brush.

I did try and attempt to do roses but I think if they weren't blue they would have come out much better. I still like it either way.

Purple: BC&Co - Shade 6
Dark Blue: Sinful Colors - Endless Blue
Light Blue: Essence - Absolutely blue

To do these 'so called' roses I used Follow That Way's tutorial. She did a MUCH better job than I did. but you what they say... practise makes perfect!

What do you think?? (And be honest...)

Purple Dots!

I have never been a huge fan of the colour purple, but yet I have a gazillion bottles of different shades.
I thought I would have a play and see if I could come up with a cool psychedelic pattern.

Base Colour: Rimmel - Marshmallow Heaven
Dark Purple: BYS - Reign Supreme
Magenta: BC&Co. - Shade 6
Light Purple: Savvy - Grapetini

I started with a base colour and used a different size dotting tools to dot random colours.

I picked a starting point on each nail and made that the 'base', the dots in that area were more condensed and then moved out from that point. The further a way the dots got, the less and far between I placed them. Sort of giving an ombre effect.

Pastel and Studs

I got this new ChiChi nail polish and was wondering how I could use it?

So I ended it pairing it with some of my favourite pastel shades...

Grey: ChiChi - Just Chillaxin
Turquoise: Australis - Aqua
Purple: Rimmel - Marshmallow Heaven
Yellow: Face of Australia - Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy
Pink: ChiChi - Blonde Ambition
Blue: Essence - Absolutely Blue

I painted each finger a different colour and then used masking tape to create a line down the middle and painted the one half with the greyish colour.

I then topped it with a silver square studs from Born Pretty.

What do you think?

Cartoon Nails!

I have seen many cartoon inspired manicures out there so I thought I would have a go at my own. :D

I think they came out AWESOME!!!!

I started by painting each finger a different colour. Then using a thin paintbrush I painted a thin black line around the edge and using a dotting tool I created the white 'shine' marks.
To top it all off I used Rimmel - Matte Finish.

All the shades I used were from Bc&Co. You can pick these up from KMart for $2. They are pretty amazing. :)
Pink: Shade 9
Orange: Shade 13
Purple: Shade 6
Yellow: Shade 10
Green: Shade 16

White: Sally Hansen - White On
Black: Sally Hansen - Black Out

I super dooper love these! And can't wait to have another go.

Guest hands... my aunty Petula!

So today is my Aunty Petula's birthday, I am NOT going to say how old she is because she will kill me...

I will, however, show you the special birthday nails I did for her.
The only requirement I was given is that there had to be 'sparkle'...

I used a dark purple colour for the base and then did the tips in a sparkle purple. They came out great!

Guest Hands... My cousin Natasha!

I am extremely lucky to have a massive family and some of the GREATEST cousins a girl could ask for. When I first started this blog I didn't have any followers, and without a second thought my cousins stepped up and supported me. And have ever since.
So when one of my cousins Natasha sent me a text last week asking me to do her nails I did not hesitate to say 'YES!'.

She had a party to go to on Saturday night and wanted some fancy nail art to go with her outfit.
So I lugged all my stuff to her house and after looking at her super cute outfit I came up with this...

She had bought this beautiful multicoloured aztec inspired skirt so I took the colours from it and came up with this design. I didn't want to go too aztec-y (if that is even a word) so she could wear the nails for a few days. So I picked a base colour, the green, and did 2 feature nails.

On her middle, pointer and pinky fingers I used Kiko - Shade 389 once  it was dry I topped with Rimmel - Matte Finish.
On her ring and thumb finger I started with  a base colour, Kiko - 359 and once it had dried I sponged on the two other colours; Savvy - Grapetini and Kiki - Shade 389.

Once the colours had dried I used striping tape to create the
anztec-y design and painted over it with a the black, Sally Hanson Xtreme Wear - Black Out.

I think that they came out great ESPECIALLY on Tasha's beautiful tanned skin (damn her)... and she got lots of complements that nights, which is the most important part.

I hope you like?

Just a quick one...

Just a quick one today.
For this I got to use some of my favourite purple shades.

I started off with a light purple base. This time I used Savvy - Grapefruit.
Once it was dry I used sticky-tape to create a 'v' shape and painted on my darker purple, BYS - Reign Supreme.
Once THAT layer was completely dry I made the same 'v' shape with some more sticky-tape and brushed on Cate Ruby - Metal Mix.

Check out some of Cate Ruby's nail polish... love the stuff!

Enjoy!! xx

SALE ALERT!!

Now, if there is one thing my mother has always taught me, it was always take advantage of a good sale. And today I have found one!! Just browsing around Priceline (looking for some pressed powder) I came across a bargain bin. Normally when I see a bargain bin my expectations are extremely low. But in this case I was sooo wrong. They had a HUGE selection of Savvy nail polish for less then $3 each.
Now I have never used Savvy nail polish before so I am extremely excited to have a go at these new colours...

From left to right: Grapetini, Tequila Sunrise and Cosmopolitan.

So everyone needs to get there butts down to Priceline and stock up!!

Half moon!

Joan Crawford

For all those out there in the nail art world, and for those who aren't,  I have stumbled across a fantastic craze of Half-moon nails!

This type of nail art started in the 1930s, when it was first worn by famous actresses of the time, they usually left the base of their nail bare in a semi-circle shape. Usually these manicures were worn in a red of maroon colour.
But in recent times Half-moon nails have made a come back in fashion and celebrities love em'! Check out some of these crazy combinations:

So the question is, can anyone pull these off?
The answer: DEFINITELY!!

I found that the best way to make them work for you in to make them you own. Use lots of blight colours, textures, stamping. Play around with colour combos, I have seen lots that have a neutral colour like grey, beige, browns, blacks with neon colours.

I personally went for a purple combo.... I started off with 17 Lasting Fix - Royal Indigo and topped that with BC.Co Shade 4. I found that the darker purple didn't really 'pop' so I added the the glittery polish on top.

Finally (after the first two coats had dried) I used a re-enforcement label sticker* to create the half moon shape.
Then over the top I used Rimmel Marshmallow Heaven.
The Reinforcement label stickers are easy to get your hands on, i got mine from Officeworks for a pack of 250 for about $2. Bargain!
Now if have a steady hand (unlike me) you can try and do the half moons free hand with a small paint brush.
On my thumb I just painted it the one colour and added a few gems to continue the sparkle theme. :)
