Galaxy Nails!

So on Saturday night I went to the movies with my friend Haydee to see Gravity. You know? The movie with Sandra Bullock floating around in space. Well we went to see that! And it was awesome! SO AWESOME that I was inspired to finally try my hand at some galaxy nails. I had seen this style on so many other blog I had been meaning to try it, and since I had the inspiration I thought 'What the heck?'....

Now trying to do research on this nail art nearly blew my mind. Every single person has a different way to go about it, some used shimmer polish while others used glitter polish, some layered upon layer upon layer, while other were simple. Ahhhhhhh! *blown mind*

In the end I picked some 'spacey' colours and came up with this...

OK so I used a LOT of colours....this is the order in which I used them.

Purple: 17 - Royal Indigo
Pink: Cate Ruby - Meg
Light Blue: Essence - Absolutely Blue
White: 17 - Mini Skirt
Yellow: Kiko - Shade 279
Sparkle Purple - BC Co - Shade 4
Shimmer Blue: Essence - The Boy Next Door
White (stars): Sally Hansen - White On

I was so complete hung up on technique I realised that the best way to get results is to use your imagination, and you really cant get this wrong (unless you attempt a shooting start and it stuffs up and becomes a starfish shape (see ring finger)).

Hope you like it?

Pastel and Studs

I got this new ChiChi nail polish and was wondering how I could use it?

So I ended it pairing it with some of my favourite pastel shades...

Grey: ChiChi - Just Chillaxin
Turquoise: Australis - Aqua
Purple: Rimmel - Marshmallow Heaven
Yellow: Face of Australia - Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy
Pink: ChiChi - Blonde Ambition
Blue: Essence - Absolutely Blue

I painted each finger a different colour and then used masking tape to create a line down the middle and painted the one half with the greyish colour.

I then topped it with a silver square studs from Born Pretty.

Cartoon Nails!

I have seen many cartoon inspired manicures out there so I thought I would have a go at my own. :D

I think they came out AWESOME!!!!

I started by painting each finger a different colour. Then using a thin paintbrush I painted a thin black line around the edge and using a dotting tool I created the white 'shine' marks.
To top it all off I used Rimmel - Matte Finish.

All the shades I used were from Bc&Co. You can pick these up from KMart for $2. They are pretty amazing. :)
Pink: Shade 9
Orange: Shade 13
Purple: Shade 6
Yellow: Shade 10
Green: Shade 16

White: Sally Hansen - White On
Black: Sally Hansen - Black Out

I super dooper love these! And can't wait to have another go.

Pink Sequins

So a few weeks ago I was given some really pretty Anna Sui nail jewellery. They are these little tiny circle sequins that give off this beautiful rainbow colours when it catches the light.
I originally was going to but it over black or a dark colour, but I think the sequins would be lost with such a strong colour, so I want the complete opposite with a baby pink colour by ChiChi.

I started off with a few coats of ChiChi - Blonde Ambition (which is my new favourite colour) and then I covered my ring and middle finger with the sequins.
These pictures do not give this manicure any justice, the way the sequins catch the light....so pretty!

Hope you like it!

Just a little bit of sparkle!

Here is a quick mani I did the other day.

You can do this with any nail polish. I thought the beige-y pink colour from Kiko worked perfectly with the silver.

Once you have picked your colour, apply a few coats on your nails and let dry completely.
Once they are dry add another layer of the SAME nail colour and before it dries (using your finger) dab on some glitter at the base of your nail... and slowly work upwards.

To get this 'ombre' effect I made sure the base was completely covered with the glitter and just rubbed my fingers together on top of the nail allowed the last remaining glitter pieces fall to the tip of the nail, thus giving you the ombre look.

Finish with a top coat.

  • Try not to use your fingers too much and don't press too hard as you might undo all the layers of polish underneath.
  • The other tip is you can use a clear nail polish to help stick the glitter on (instead of  the same colour).
  •  Make sure you check your top coat brush for any stray glitter, because I can guarantee you it will sneak its way onto your next mani and it will annoy the crap outta you!

That's it... SIMPLE!

Let me know what you think?

Cate Ruby Swatch

I have been lucky enough the be sent some awesome nail polish from Cate Ruby.
I was so excited to receive them in the mail yesterday that I tried them on straight away.

In my parcel I received two super special colours. Meg (the pink) and Metal Mix (the silver). Even though my mind was racing with different nail art ideas to try with this amazing colours, I had to stop myself and do what I was supposed to do, swatch them. So here goes...

Meg was beautiful to put on. I only needed one coat to cover the whole nail AND it covered evenly. There is nothing I can say to fault this 'Barbie' beautiful polish. So I will talk about the positives....the best part about this polish was how easy it was to clean. I am always in a constant battle with other nail polishes during clean up time but Meg came off really easily and I was able to use plain old nail polish remover which make my cuticles happy.

Metal Mix was a huge surprise. I expected it to be like other glitter nail polishes where you need a few good coats to evenly spread the glitter. But I was GREATLY mistaken. Metal Mix glided on with ease and like Meg, covered the nail almost in one coat, giving me this glitterly, silver, almost textured look. It was truly stunning on my nails. I could feel my mind coming up with hundreds of ways to use it in my nail art (hopefully be using it very soon).
The only downfall this polish had was clean up and removal. There was a lot of glitter to take off and it stuck to my skin around my nail. This didn't bother me too much as it happens with most fine glitter polishes.

Overall my first experience with Cate Ruby was great. I can not wait to try some more, especially 'Prissie-Lou' which looked amazing on Kylie Gillies nails at the Logies.

Happy Easter!!

We have come to that time of the year where we are all visited by a man sized bunny who hides chocolate eggs in our gardens (or conveniently in our living rooms if its raining).
Yes it is Easter... the only time of the year where eating ridiculous amounts of chocolate is a-okay! I myself have already stocked up on a few bags of mini eggs. Mmmmm!
So to celebrate this egg-cellent day I have had some fun with some pastel colours....

I had lots of fun buying some new pastel colours for my Easter inspired nails. I used my trusty dotting tool for most of the work and a very fine paint brush for the bunny.

For my middle finger, I started with a pale yellow and used a sponge to sponge on some of my blue and pink.

Blue - Gold by Giles (from New Look) in Pale Blue
Pink - BC.Co in Shade 1
Yellow - Face of Australia - Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

A little bit of everything...

So this is one of my favourite designs just because it was so much fun to do. I didn't really go in with a plan. I just picked my favourite colour (at the time) and paired it with black and white. I also experimented with a matte top coat.
Each nail has a different technique or tool used;
Thumb: Matte top coat and nail tape.
Forefinger: Sticky tape
Middle: -
Ring: Matte top coat and nail tape.
Pinky: Dotting tool.

This is a really great way to show off your skills. :)
